Winfred Adukule (Uganda) received her law degree from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda in 2001.  She is currently a Senior Legal Officer with the Directorate for Ethics and Integrity, Office of the President. She is also an enrolled Advocate of the High Court of Uganda, an active member of the Uganda Law Society, the East African Law Society, and the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities.  Upon completing the LLM program, she plans to nurture greater levels of democratic governance and the rule of law in Uganda.

 


Adeniyi Makinde Bankole (Nigeria) received his law degree from the Nigerian Law School in 2004. He worked with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in New York and also with the Ministry of Justice in Nigeria. He is currently into active private practice in Lagos, Nigeria.  Upon graduating from the LLM program, it is his hope to join the Nigerian Senate and strengthen democratic governance while standing in opposition to human rights abuses.


 


Robson Chihota (Zimbabwe) received his law degree from the University of Zimbabwe in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1996.  He currently is a managing partner in a law firm that represents Zimbabweans in all courts within the country.  He also teaches business law at Zimbabwe Open University and works as a legal officer advocating human rights and democracy for the Zimbabwe Exiles Forum.  Upon graduating from the LLM program, he plans to specialize in human rights and the rule of law while helping to rebuild democracy in Zimbabwe.

 

 

Sergii Chykurlii (Ukraine) received his law degree from the Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University in 1999 and is a Ph.D. candidate at the Institute of Legislation of the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine. He has lectured at a number of universities in Ukraine and is currently working as a legal expert at the Center for Political and Legal Reforms where his responsibilities include participating in working groups for drafting legislation, providing legal analysis of governmental proposals and legislation, and conducting academic research. Upon graduation from the LL.M program, Sergii hopes to use his newly acquired knowledge to assist him in formulating and promoting a systematic approach to improve the system of local self-government in Ukraine.

 

Emebet Negussie Desta (Ethiopia) received her law degree from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia.  She is currently a Program Attorney for the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA-ROLI), in her home country, where she manages the judicial reform and legal education reform projects of the ABA-ROLI.  Upon completion of the LL.M. program, she plans to serve her nation by helping to strengthen democratic institutions and the rule of law.

 

 

 

Sophia Dhatemwa (Uganda) received her law degree from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda in 2003.  She currently holds the position of Legal Officer of the Paralegal Advisory Services Program for the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative and is a member of the Ugandan Bar Association.  Upon completion of the LL.M program, Sophia is committed to enhancing access to the justice system and to the promotion of human rights in her country.

 

 

 

Galyna Lytovka (Ukraine) received her law degree from ShevchenkoUniversity in Kyiv, Ukraine in 2002.  She most recently worked as an Administrative Law Specialist in the Ukraine Rule of Law Project where she focused on the development and strengthening of the administrative judiciary.  After receiving her LLM, she plans to continue her legal practice with an emphasis on facilitating reform in the judiciary and further promoting the rule of law in Ukraine.

 

 

 

Sarah Thokozani Nayeja (Malawi) received her law degree from the University of Malawi in 2002.  She is currently employed as Chief Legal Officer in the Office of the Ombudsman in Malawi where her responsibilities include investigating cases of alleged injustices in Government and facilitating workshops on governance and the rule of law for public servants.  Upon graduation from the LL.M program, Sarah hopes to help make her country a role model of good governance and the observance of the rule of law, not only in Southern Africa, but in the whole of  Africa and, probably, beyond.

 

 

Sisty Leonard Nyahoza (Tanzania) received his law degree from Makerere University in 1999.  He is currently working for the Tanzanian Government in the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties as Assistant Registrar of Politic al Parties.  After graduating from the LLM program, he plans to continue his service in the Government promoting rule of law, human rights, democracy and good governance.

 

 

 

Elijah Osiro (Kenya) received his law degree from University of Nairobi in Kenya. Since 2000 he has been attached to the Inspectorate of Government in Uganda, initially as an International UN Volunteer and then as a Technical Assistant through DANIDA, providing strategic support to the Inspectorate to eliminate corruption and bad governance and promote strict adherence to the rule of law. Elijah plans to use the knowledge and skills gleaned from the LL.M program to enhance his contribution to the fight against corruption and to the promotion of the rule of law and good governance in Uganda.

 

 

Ekaterine Popkhadze (Georgia) received her law degree from the Sokhumi branch of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University of Georgia in 2003.  She is presently Director of the Legal Aid Center for the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association, where she has co-authored several publications on various legal issues that impact the citizens of Georgia.  Ekaterine plans to use her knowledge gleaned from the program to expand human rights protections and the development of democratic institutions in Georgia.
